As vice president of Economic Development, Patrick Murphy leads economic development efforts across the state, supporting new and expanding industry and helping communities of all sizes enhance their prospects for economic growth.
Murphy most recently served as vice president of the Mobile Division, representing the division through external and community affairs, and implementing growth initiatives that generate revenue through sales, economic development and community development. Murphy has been a leader in the state's economic development for many years. He has held positions of increasing responsibilities within Marketing and Economic and Community Development at Alabama Power.
Prior to joining Alabama Power, Murphy was the senior vice president of Economic Development for the Birmingham Business Alliance. In that position, he led business recruitment, retention and expansion efforts in the seven county Birmingham metropolitan area. Murphy is the past president of the Economic Development Association of Alabama. He sits on numerous boards, including those of the Auburn Research and Technology Foundation, the Mobile Infirmary Foundation, Mobile Infirmary Health Systems Board, Industrial Development Board for the City of Mobile, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, Coastal Alabama Partnership, Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation, Moorer Foundation, Regions Mobile Advisory Board, Salvation Army Coastal Alabama Advisory Board, University of South Alabama President's Cabinet and Alabama Power Foundation Board. Murphy was a member of the Leadership Alabama Class of 2018. He belongs to numerous civic organizations.
Murphy is a graduate of Auburn University. He and his wife, Kerri, have four children.
