Riverside gets $6.9 million rebar plant

Nufab Rebar, owned by steel giant Nucor Steel, will make rebar to reinforce concrete used in construction projects  at a plant the company will build in the east Alabama town of Riverside near Pell City.

The plant will have 50 employees within three years and that number could rise to 80 within five years, according to published reports. The rebar facility will be near Interstate 20, a 1,500-mile federal highway connecting Texas and South Carolina via Dallas, Birmingham and Atlanta.

Riverside, a community along the banks of Logan Martin Lake on the Coosa River, is in St. Clair County.

Nufab is a unit of Harris Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of  Nucor.
