Hyundai Heavy Industries has chosen Montgomery as the site of a $90 million, 220,000-square foot facility making 500-ton power transformers for the electric utility industry. Construction is scheduled to begin in August at the Interstate Industrial Park adjacent to I-65. The plant will employ an estimated 500 people when it opens in 2012.
Hyundai Heavy Industries is a global network with six divisions: shipbuilding; offshore and engineering; industrial plant and engineering; engine and machinery; construction equipment; and Electro Electric Systems, of which Hyundai Electrical Systems Alabama Inc. will be a subsidiary.
